This insect is "Snout beetles". Although it is a beautiful insect but is the insect pest. Since its favorite food are rice, corn, orange and other industrial drop.

Snout beetles / Gold-dust weevil

The Curculionidae are the family of the "true" weevils (or "snout beetles"). They are one of the largest animal families, with 5,489 genera and 86,100 species described worldwide.

They also include the bark beetles as subfamily Scolytinae, which are modified[unreliable source?] in shape in accordance with their wood-boring lifestyle. They do not much resemble other weevils, so they were traditionally considered a distinct family, Scolytidae. The family also includes the ambrosia beetles, of which the present-day subfamily Platypodinae was formerly considered the distinct family Platypodidae.

A weevil is a type of beetle from the Curculionoidea superfamily. They are usually small, less than 6 mm (0.24 in), and herbivorous. Over 60,000 species are in several families, mostly in the family Curculionidae (the true weevils). Some other beetles, although not closely related, bear the name "weevil", such as the biscuit weevil (Stegobium paniceum), which belongs to the family Anobiidae.

Many weevils are considered pests because of their ability to damage and kill crops, but others are used for biological control of invasive plants. The grain or wheat weevil (Sitophilus granarius) damages stored grain. The boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) attacks cotton crops. It lays its eggs inside cotton bolls, and the larvae eat their way out.

One species of weevil, Austroplatypus incompertus, exhibits eusociality, one of the few insects outside the Hymenoptera and the Isoptera to do so.

แมลงค่อมทอง หรือด้วงงวงกัดกินใบเป็นด้วงชนิดขนาดกลาง สามารถพบเห็นได้ทั่วทั้งเอเซียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้จนถึงญี่ปุ่นและจีน ปากมีลักษณะเป็นงวงยาวแบบ กัดกิน ส่วนหัวสั้นทู่ยื่นตรงไม่งุ้มเข้าใต้อก มีหนวดแบบข้อศอก (geniculate) โดยปล้องปลายหนวดจะโป่งออก ตั้งอยู่ที่กึ่งกลางของงวงปาก ลำตัวมีหลายสีขึ้นอยู่กับ สภาพแวดล้อม เมื่อเป็นตัวเต็มวัยใหม่ๆ จะมีสเกลหรือเกร็ด ลักษณะคล้ายฝุ่นผงสีเหลืองหรือสีเขียวสะท้อนแสงปกคลุมอยู่มากมายตามลำตัว และที่เห็นเป็นสีอื่น เช่น สีน้ำตาล สีดำ สีเทา ก็เพราะสเกลเหล่านี้หลุดออกไป มีเส้นแบ่งกลาง หัว อก และปีกเห็นชัดเจน

ตัวเต็มวัยสามารถพบได้ตลอดทั้งปีและทุกภาคของประเทศไทย แต่จะพบมากในเดือน ธันวาคม-มีนาคม ซึ่งเป็นระยะที่แมลงผสมพันธุ์และวางไข่ ตัวเต็มวัยเพศเมียวางไข่ในดิน ตัวเมีย 1 ตัว วางไข่ได้ 40 - 131 ฟอง โดยวางไข่ 5 - 10 ครั้ง แต่ละครั้งห่างกัน 3 - 4 วัน จำนวนไข่ที่วางแต่ละครั้ง 3 - 27 ฟอง ระยะไข่ 7 - 8 วัน เมื่อไข่ฟักเป็นตัวหนอนจะกัดกินรากพืชในดิน หนอนมีการลอกคราบ 4 - 5 ครั้ง ระยะหนอน 22 - 23 วัน จากนั้นจะเข้าดักแด้ในดิน ระยะดักแด้ 10 - 15 วัน จะออกเป็นตัวเต็มวัย เพศผู้มีขนาดเล็กกว่าเพศเมีย ระยะตัวเต็มวัย เพศผู้ 8 เดือน เพศเมีย 12 เดือน

ตัวหนอนของแมลงค่อมทองกัดกินรากของพืชหลายชนิดเป็นอาหาร เช่น ข้าว ข้าวโพด ยาสูบ ฝ้าย และพืชตระกูลส้ม ตัวเต็มวัยกัดกินตั้งเเต่เนื้อเยื่อเจริญ เช่น รากอ่อน ตากิ่ง ตาดอก เป็นต้น ต้นอ่อน ใบอ่อน จนถึงใบแก่ของต้นไม้ โดยใบแก่จะกินตั้งแต่ขอบใบ เข้าไปข้างใน จนเหลือแต่เส้นใบ เป็นศัตรูของพืชมากมายหลายชนิด เช่น มะม่วง ลำไย เงาะ ส้มเขียวหวาน ส้มโอ หม่อน จามจุรี ชัยพฤกษ์ สนประดิพัทธิ์ ยูคาลิปตัส นนทรี สัก มะฮอกกานี มะดูก มะค่าแต้ กะทกรก เหียง เลี่ยน กระถินณรงค์ ประดู่แดง เป็นต้น แมลงค่อมทองตัวเต็มวัยชอบอยู่รวมกันเป็นกลุ่ม เข้าทำลายพืช ทำให้พืชชะงักการเจริญเติบโต ชอบอาศัยอยู่ตามใต้ใบ เคลื่อนที่ช้า ไม่ว่องไว เมื่อถูกรบกวนจะทิ้งตัวลงพื้น โดยดึงส่วนขาและหนวด เข้าห่อตัวและหยุดเคลื่อนไหว และนอกจากนี้ยังพบว่าแมลง ค่อมทองยังเข้าทำลายพืชป่าหลายชนิดอีกด้วย
