พบเจ้าแมลงตัวเล็กสีแดง ขนาดประมาณ 1 เซ็นติเมตร ที่ ต้นปักษาสวรรค์ (Bird of Paradise)
ในสวนที่ ต.หนองหญ้า อ.เมือง จ.กาญจนบุรี เวลาประมาณ 14.00 น. วันเสาร์ที่ 6 สิงหาคม 2565
ที่น่าสนใจคือ เจ้าแมลงตัวนี้เหมือนกับกำลังยิงของเหลวใสๆ คล้ายน้ำ ออกจากส่วนท้ายตลอดเวลา
จากการสืบค้นพบว่า ลักษณะและพฤติกรรมใกล้เคียงกับ ตัวเต็มวัยของเพลี้ยจักจั่นแดง หรือ Red Leafhoppers หรือ Bothrogonia indistincta ซึ่งจัดเป็นศัตรูพืชชนิดหนึ่ง
โดยมีลักษณะการทำลายพืชคือ ดูดกินน้ำเลี้ยงจากพืช ส่งผลให้พืชเติบโตได้ไม่เต็มที่ และยังมีการขับของเสีย
เป็นของเหลว เรียกว่า "Honeydew" หรือ "มูลหวาน" โดยมูลหวานนี้จะติดตาม ใบหรือช่อดอกของพืช และ
เป็นอาหารของราดำต่อไป (ราดำเติบโตปิดบังใบก็กระทบต่อการสังเคราะห์แสงของพืช) และมูลหวานของเพลี้ยบางชนิดยังมีเชื้อไวรัสและแบคทีเรีย ที่ทำความเสียหายให้กับพืชได้ นอกจากพืชแล้วยังมีพบเห็นบ่อยๆ ว่าเพลี้ยจักจั่นที่มาเล่นไฟตอนกลางคืนทำให้เกิดผื่นคันที่ผิวหนังกับบางคนได้
หมายเหตุ หากค้นหาข้อมูลแมลงในกลุ่มเพลี้ย จะพบว่ามีหลายคำค้น เช่น Leafhoppers หรือ Sharpshooter หรือ Aphid หรือ Bothrogonia
Found this 1-centimeter red tiny insect on a bird of paradise tree in the backyard in Nong ya, Mueang, Kanchanaburi at about 2 pm. on 6 August 2022.
The strange about this bug is that it always shoots liquid from its bottom. After googling, I found that this is a Red Leafhoppers, one of the important pests that farmers need to control.
The leafhoppers will suck plant sap that makes weakness to the plant. It also produces waste called honeydew which will drop to the upper side of the plant leaf. The honeydew will be the food of sooty mold that will grow over the upper side of the plant leaf and reduce the plant's photosynthesis.
Rather than its honeydew, the leafhoppers can spread viruses and bacteria to plants. Moreover, in Thailand, we found that these leafhoppers can make allergic to human skin also.
Note: I found that the other keyword in searching for information about the Leafhoppers are sharpshooter, aphid, and bothogonia.
