แมลงวันดอกไม้ (Hoverfly, flower flies or syrphid flies) หากค้นหาจากอินเทอร์เน็ต จะพบว่ามีชื่อเรียกหลายชื่อ เช่น แมลงวันโฉบ แมลงวันเซอร์ฟิส แมลงวันเจิง
แมลงวันดอกไม้ มีลักษณะคล้ายผึ้ง แต่ไม่กัดหรือต่อย เป็นแมลงวันขนาดกลางถึงใหญ่
ตัวอ่อนหลายชนิดเป็นแมลงตัวห้ำที่มีประโยชน์ในการกินเพลี้ยอ่อน บางชนิดอาศัยอยู่ในรังของแมลงที่อยู่เป็นสังคมโดยเฉพาะมด ปลวก หรือผึ้ง บางชนิดอาศัยอยู่ตามซากใบไม้ กิ่งไม้ผุ บางชนิดอยู่ในน้ำคลำที่เน่าเสีย แมลงวันดอกไม้ที่มีข้อมูลการพบในประเทศไทยมีประมาณ 50 ชนิด ชนิดที่มีขนาดค่อนข้างใหญ่ที่พบได้บ่อยคือ แมลงวันดอกไม้หลังลาย (Helophilus insignis ) และ แมลงวันดอกไม้หัวจุด (Eristalinus arvorum)
Hoverfly also called flower fly or syrphid fly
Hoverfly looks like a bee but it will not sting. Many species have larvae are insectivores and prey on aphids, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects. There is information that hoverfly found in Thailand around 50 species and the most found are Helophilus insignis and Eristalinus arvorum which are medium to the big size of the hoverfly.
